February 2024 was another healthy month for hiring as employers filled 275,000 jobs in the USA. This was substantially more than the impressive 229,000 US jobs that were created in January. During the past three months, American employers have been hiring an average of 265,000 workers per month as they try to satisfy strong consumer demand. The average increase in wages earned by people working in the USA has remained higher than the rate of inflation for over 12 months, resulting in more money for American consumers to spend. The business sectors that produced the most US jobs in February included healthcare (67,000), government (52,000), bars and restaurants (42,000), construction (23,000) and retail (19,000). Furthermore, February was the 25th month in a row that the country’s unemployment rate remained below 4 percent, which is the longest stretch in six decades.
